Yoga of Healing For Mamas: Take Healing into Your Own Hands

The body goes through changes minute by minute in the 18 months around pregnancy. Any small misalignment has the potential to be magnetized, and create pain and discomfort. It’s hard to feel calm and content when we are in pain!

Yoga Therapeutics

In this powerful, information-filled weekend you will receive alignment principles to practice, teach, and live by. These actions we can do anytime help maintain pain-free living, strength in our core and joints, freedom in our physical and energetic body, and inner support throughout the cycles and phases of our lives.

We will apply these principles to basic yoga poses and sequences, and learn to instruct with them to help our students out of pain.

Poses we teach all the time – chatturanga, downward dog, backbends and standing poses – can worsen pain for the vulnerable pregnant and post-partum body.

Bring your aches and pains! They are often our greatest gurus, so we can learn to help others heal from them. These principles are particularly useful for common pregnancy discomforts, but help reduce pain for all bodies, all the time.

What are You Teaching Here?

The Five Ma Yoga Alignment Principles, or Five Sacred Steps  – We will go over step by step actions, and how to apply them to our every day poses on the mat; how to get people out of pain in the usual challenging poses; and hands-on adjustments to address specific aches and pains. We will practice seeing misalignments in common poses, and instructing people into optimal alignment to help them get and stay out of pain.

Start from pain – We will address particular aches and pains using women’s bodies as our model, as well as common physical challenges along the journey to motherhood and beyond. We’ll address include wrist, low back, SI, knee and other pains, as well as infertility, dyastisis recti and other physical conditions. We will practice hands-on adjustments on each other that will feel great and help us understand the directions the muscles and bones want to go in, so that we can end with relief, stability, and freedom.

Become a confident healer – The principles you will learn are applicable to everyone, man or woman, pregnant or in menopause. By looking closely at specific issues related to pregnancy and new motherhood, we will come to know intimately what the body needs physically and energetically to maintain ease and strength. With the Five Sacred Steps you will have the tools to relieve all musculo-skeletal pains, on and off the mat.

The 5 Therapeutic Alignment Principle Experience

  • My experience was fantastic, I thought I would have wrist pain forever, but just by learning to support my weight in my shoulders, I have started to alleviate this issue. It was wonderful to learn that we are more powerful than we know and be given the tools to use this power and gentleness.

  • With no background in teaching yoga, the Therapeutics training really helped me be more confident in my ability to teach. The training was very interactive and hands on which also made me more confident in being able to teach others. Thank you Ma Yoga!

  • I had a wonderful experience - it was definitely more than I imagined it to be. The weekend really helped me to look at yoga in a different way. I walked away with new tools and principles that I can use on myself and others. I'm excited to review all of the material and to start putting what I learned to use immediately. I really appreciate being able to download the handouts, it's nice to be able to revisit the handouts in the member area.

  • Thank you Colleen for sharing with us your knowledge about bio mechanics of the body, energy flow and mindful movement. I really appreciate you taking us in such an awesome journey through the body's anatomy and it was really amazing to be able to feel the different alignments ourselves. And at the very end of the training I feel confident enough to be able to recognize mis-alignments and have the tools to guide a student into a better and more optimal position. Feeling the changes and benefits in our own body was key to be able to understanding all the principles of Therapeutic Yoga!

  • Jessica, the alignment principles I learned in your therapeutics workshop last weekend was completely evolutionary for my practice in mind, body, and spirit. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for this priceless gift. I hope some day to embody a fraction of the goddess energy that radiates from you.
