The Yoga of Healing: Take Healing into Your Own Hands
As a yoga teacher, we get a lot of questions:
- Why does my back hurt in this pose?
- What can I do for knee pain?
- How do I sleep so my hips don’t hurt in the morning?-
These are even more common if someone’s pregnant or a new mom, because of the changes that happen. Plus, there are specific conditions related to this time of life:
- Why do I have a pain in my lower belly?
- How can I get my abdominal muscles to come back together?
- What do I do for pelvic instability?
In The Yoga of Healing, you’ll get the answers.
In this powerful, information-filled weekend you will receive alignment principles to practice, teach, and live by. These actions we can do anytime help maintain pain-free living, strength in our core and joints, freedom in our physical and energetic body, and inner support throughout the cycles and phases of our lives.
We will apply these principles to basic yoga poses and sequences, and learn to instruct with them to help our students out of pain.
Poses we teach all the time – chatturanga, downward dog, backbends and standing poses – can worsen pain for the vulnerable pregnant and post-partum body.
Bring your aches and pains! They are often our greatest gurus, so we can learn to help others heal from them. These principles are particularly useful for common pregnancy discomforts, but help reduce pain for all bodies, all the time.
If you haven’t gotten this yet, this workshop is not rainbows and woo woo! It’s what I believe is essential information for any yoga teacher interested in helping their students find a connection to easeful energetic flow in every pose.
What are You Teaching Here?
The Five Ma Yoga Alignment Principles, or Five Sacred Steps – We will go over step by step actions, and how to apply them to our every day poses on the mat; how to get people out of pain in the usual challenging poses; and hands-on adjustments to address specific aches and pains. We will practice seeing misalignments in common poses, and instructing people into optimal alignment to help them get and stay out of pain.
Start from pain – We will address particular aches and pains using women’s bodies as our model, as well as common physical challenges along the journey to motherhood and beyond. We’ll address include wrist, low back, SI, knee and other pains, as well as infertility, dyastisis recti and other physical conditions. We will practice hands-on adjustments on each other that will feel great and help us understand the directions the muscles and bones want to go in, so that we can end with relief, stability, and freedom.
Become a confident healer – The principles you will learn are applicable to everyone, man or woman, pregnant or in menopause. By looking closely at specific issues related to pregnancy and new motherhood, we will come to know intimately what the body needs physically and energetically to maintain ease and strength. With the Five Sacred Steps you will have the tools to relieve all musculo-skeletal pains, on and off the mat.
The “healing” designation does not come from Yoga Alliance certification but rather from Kinesiology. Jessica Jennings has her Masters in Kinesiology.
The 5 Therapeutic Alignment Principle Experience
Yoga of Healing for Women as part of a 200-hour training
-
Including therapeutics into the (200-hr) training is essential for any new yoga teacher—giving them tools for students who come into their classes with common ailments. Our trainees... were able to experience alignment from a different perspective - and most had transformations in their own practice as well. Jessica and her team are dynamic educators; she is prepared, knowledgeable, and passionate about healing through alignment. We look forward to working with Jessica and Ma Yoga again!
